Chrome Extension Privacy Policy

Overview

FreelanceDesk is a Chrome extension that helps freelancers create invoices, proposals, contracts, and NDAs, track time and expenses, and manage clients. All your data stays on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your personal or business information on our servers.

What Data the Extension Stores

The extension stores the following data locally on your device using IndexedDB (browser storage):

• Client information — names, email addresses, phone numbers, mailing addresses, and notes you enter about your clients
• Documents — invoices, proposals, contracts, NDAs, and meeting notes you create
• Time entries — hours tracked for client projects
• Expenses — expense records including amounts, categories, and receipt images
• Brand kit — your logo, brand colors, fonts, and business contact details
• Templates — document templates and customizations
• Settings — your preferences (currency, date format, theme, invoice numbering)

None of this data ever leaves your browser. It is never sent to our servers or any third-party service.

Data Encryption

Sensitive client fields (email, phone, address, notes) and brand kit fields (email, phone, address, bank details, tax ID) are encrypted at rest using AES-GCM-256 encryption via the Web Crypto API. Encryption keys are stored in a separate IndexedDB database and are non-exportable.

When you export a backup, you can optionally encrypt it with a password using PBKDF2 key derivation (600,000 iterations) and AES-GCM encryption.

Network Requests

The extension makes one type of network request:

• License validation — When you enter a license key, the extension contacts api.polar.sh to verify your purchase. This request sends only your license key and receives a validation response. No personal data, documents, or usage information is included.

The extension does not use analytics, tracking pixels, telemetry, error reporting services, or any other network communication.

Permissions Explained

Data Backup and Export

You control your data completely:

• Export — Download a full backup of all your data as a JSON file, optionally encrypted with a password
• Import — Restore from a backup file at any time
• Delete — Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data

We have no ability to recover your data if you uninstall the extension or clear browser data. We recommend regular backups.

Third-Party Services

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, Mixpanel, Sentry, or any other third-party tracking or analytics service.

Cookies and Tracking

The extension does not use cookies, local storage tracking, fingerprinting, or any form of user tracking.

Children's Privacy

The extension is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children.

Data Retention

Since all data is stored locally on your device, you control retention. Data persists until you:

• Manually delete it within the extension
• Clear your browser data
• Uninstall the extension

We retain no data on our servers because we never receive any.

Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)

Because we never collect or process your data on our servers:

• Right to access — All your data is already on your device and accessible to you
• Right to deletion — Uninstall the extension or clear browser data
• Right to portability — Use the export feature to download all your data as JSON
• Right to opt out of sale — We never sell data because we never have it

Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, we will update the “Last updated” date above. Significant changes will be communicated through the extension's update notes on the Chrome Web Store.
